Season 5, Episode 3: Kids Ain’t Like Everybody Else

Danielle returns to Wisteria Lane with her son in tow, only to face psychological warfare from her mother, Bree. Susan tries to protect her son, MJ, from a bully, only to find out it’s Gabrielle’s daughter who is the bully, which puts a rift between the mothers. Tom’s midlife crisis cure includes starting up a garage band with Edie’s husband, Dave, who’s under close scrutiny by some of the neighbors.

It’s taken three years for Bree to convince Danielle to let her son Benjamin, now six, visit. She tries not to be critical, but can’t hold her tongue when Benjamin calls Danielle by her first name. “I certainly hope he won’t call me Bree,” she says and Danielle assures her, “Don’t worry. I told him to call you Granny.”

Bree is horrified to learn that Benjamin’s been raised vegetarian and convinces him to try a hot dog. Benjamin becomes violently ill and when the truth comes out, Danielle announces they’re leaving. Orson blames Bree for driving Danielle away — and for not fighting harder to keep Benjamin in the first place.
